Joe 2:11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? We are often so intimidated by our enemies or problems. Joel tells us God's camp is very great. We dread so many things about tomorrow. We fear the things that Satan can do to us. This is all belittling a mighty, fearful God.
Sunday AM, 07/22/18, Tim Mock preaching, "Be Aware of Your Surroundings".
"Crucified in Christ" meaning we have totally surrendered our lives to Him. As surrendered individuals, we no longer live for ourselves, but He lives through us. Christ, who died for us, merits all our trust, all our life.
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. It is hard to truly put ourselves in any place but #1. Only when we fall completely in love with God, can we find comfort in knowing that we are not the biggest priority.
Psa 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Serving God is not an endurance test. As the psalmist describes, we can delight ourselves; there is joy, happiness, times of pleasure for those who live a life for God. This may seem curious to those who think of this life as that of servitude and bondage to all these rules, standards, and commandments. The child of God should take delight in a life free of guilt, remorse, and bondage to the this world. O taste and see that the LORD is good!
Please don't forget, no services at Stones Chapel Sunday, June 17 or Wednesday, June 20. We will be supporting the Calvary Holiness Youth Camp. Night Services begin there each night at 8:00. Sunday services are 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Jesus invites us to drink of the water of life freely. Salvation has never been free; Jesus paid the price freely and of His own volition. It is a gift to all who will accept. Thank you to a merciful and loving God.
Exo 15:11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Who is like God? Who or what can we compare to Him? He is a God of power and glory. He is awesome. Yet, we are too often guilty of coveting other pleasures, making idols of the goods of this world, and idols of the people we celebrate. Jehovah God is the only One worthy our worship; our praise; our love.
Neh 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. We compartmentalize God. We make Him a healer; a God of salvation; a creator... The truth of the whole matter is God is all of these things and so much more. We read a passage like Nehemiah 9:6 which is so descriptive of the God of Creation. He made the earth and all the things therein. All of His creation was made to worship Him. Let us make sure we do our part.
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. "He humbled Himself" Consider the statement. The King of Kings. He is worshipped by the angels in Heaven. He is a member of the Godhead. He humbled Himself to walk on earth as man, but He was God. He humbled himself to die for our sins. The love He manifested in this great sacrifice is unmatched. O, what a Savior!
Psa 103:1-3 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Bless the Lord - praise Him or show Him gratitude. The psalmist tells us to not forget His benefits. He forgives our sins; He heals all our sicknesses. Our God is full of goodness. He is our Refuge, our Savior, and our Healer. God will be everything we need Him to be and so much more.
Mar 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. Notice the terminology, Simon the leper. Possibly this refers to Simon's surname, but most likely this refers to a miracle Jesus performed for him in the past. John indicated if the story was written with all the miracles Jesus performed, the world could not contain the books. There were many Simons in Jesus' day. Designated, Simon the leper, due to his sickness even though Jesus had performed this great miracle. How many other great miracles did He perform that are not recorded? messages preached that we have not read? parables spoken from which we have not gotten to learn?
Php 1:19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, Paul told the church at Phillipi their prayers would be the means of his deliverance. By their touching the throne of Heaven, God would deliver him in the times of persecution. Often in the scriptures, we are commanded to pray for one another; to call for the elders; to pray an effectual fervent prayer. The second commandment was to "love thy neighbor as thyself." If we love one another, we will pray for and support one another.
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Paul references Isaiah 64.4. He lets us know that we cannot fully perceive or comprehend what God has prepared for His people. These things certainly await us in Heaven, but He has also prepared great things for us in this life as well. He measures wealth and wonders by a different measuring stick than us. We most often think first of things and financial wealth; God considers the spiritual benefits we have been endowed, but so often do not reach toward. There is glory on earth and in heaven that we have not imagined. Press toward that mark.
Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Memorial Day has been celebrated since 1868 to honor our service men and women who have lost their lives in service for our country. This day should be spent remembering their great sacrifice that we may have freedom to live in this great country. Approximately 2.7 million veterans have made this sacrifice. There is no greater love.
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Paul teaches us that we are sons of God that are led by His Spirit. When His Spirit inspires us and infills us, we know that we are His and He is ours.
